Dr.Chadrashekar Kaipu has worked as a clinical audiologist, speech-language pathologist, and rehab program manager in the United States for more than 20 years. He also worked for nine years as a faculty member training graduate students in audiology and speech-language pathology programs at the University of Bombay and Osmania University in India. In a career spanning 35 years, he has had the opportunity to work in multiple areas of audiology & speech pathology services.
Dr. Kaipu holds a Master of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Mysore, India, and a Doctor of Audiology from A.T. Still University, Mesa, Arizona. He also holds clinical competency certification in both audiology and speech-language pathology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
Hearing loss statistics in older adults
- The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders states, “Approximately one in three people in the United States between the ages of 65 and 74 has hearing loss, and nearly half of those older than 75 have difficulty hearing.”
- Age is the strongest predictor of hearing loss among adults; 91% of adults with hearing loss are aged 50 and older.
- Those older than 80 have the most significant amount of hearing loss
Hearing loss can affect personal and work life
Hearing loss can affect a person in three main ways:
- Fewer educational and job opportunities due to impaired communication, social withdrawal due to reduced access to services, and difficulties communicating with others.
- A drop in self-esteem and confidence causes emotional problems and may lead to Dementia.
